In the article, "Should Everyone Get a Trophy?" by Lauren Tarshis, she talked about how kids get a trophy just for showing up to team practices. Our school system decided more than a decade ago to pass kids on to the next grade regardless of how successful they were on their report card. Do you think kids should fail?
I don’t think kids should get to graduate the class without completing the requirements of the grade. Just like Lucas said “I am actually not so good at sports” he got his trophies for showing up to games and practices. Just like at school all you have to do is show up, you could take a nap or something.
Kids should be given a chance at a good future. If you hold kids back the teacher could push the kid to work harder and pay more attention in class or if they just don’t know or understand the work . They won’t have any of their friends in the class so they will not be able to act cool in front of their friends and mess around with them so they will be able to pay more attention and work harder instead of talk. Why not give them a chance for a good future because would you really want to be working at a gas station at age 38.
Students should not get rewarded for doing nothing. Its not fair to the students that work the hardest when the others mess around and try to be cool and not listen. When they go to high school they will not get rewarded for doing nothing because if they fail they will not get moved up they will stay in that grade. Also, its like telling the kid if you dont want to work you don’t have to because you will keep moving up. That is why kids should not get rewarded for doing nothing.
If the kid does not know the simplest things like addition or subtraction they should not get moved along. They would not get a good job because they will keep getting moved up when they don’t know the stuff. If they get held back they will be able to learn the stuff, if they learn it again they will be able to get a better job just a year later than the other kids their age. They will also work harder so they don’t get held back again.
These are my reasons why students should not get moved up if they don’t know the stuff. First they should be given a chance at a better future. Second they should not get rewarded for not trying.Last of they won’t know the easiest things like addition and subtraction. There is why I strongly agree that kids should be held back.
